2 San Jose residents killed by wrong-way driver on State Route 85, CHP says

A woman and teenage boy were killed in San Jose on Monday after a Florida man drove the wrong way on State Route 85 and hit a Tesla head on, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP started receiving calls about a wrong way driver at around 3:40 p.m.

The driver of a Toyota Tacoma drove the wrong way for nearly 10 minutes before hitting a Tesla killing two people inside.

Video shows the moments a truck traveled several minutes in the wrong direction on a busy San Jose freeway before killing two people on Monday.

The CHP said a 47-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy were killed, both San Jose residents.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office have not identified the crash victims.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The CHP said he is a 39-year-old man from Florida.

It’s not clear whether he was under the influence.

Traffic on northbound SR 85 was diverted onto SR 87 for a few hours.

As of of 8:04 p.m., northbound lanes of SR 85 reopened.
