Every parent’s greatest desire is for their children to be healthy and enjoy a happy childhood. Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin shared this wish, but their happiness was overshadowed by tragedy when their son Nathaniel passed away only 36 hours after he was born. Nathaniel had Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a condition that causes cysts to form in the kidneys and often leads to kidney failure. Their worst fear became a reality when their daughter Maddy was born with the same condition, her belly swollen, resembling that of a 9-month pregnant woman. However, this time, a ray of hope emerged. Maddy was given a second chance at life, thanks to her brave and loving dad who went above and beyond for his daughter. Paul made the ultimate sacrifice by donating one of his kidneys to save Maddy’s life. Prior to the surgery, Maddy struggled with her health, spending countless hours in and out of hospitals and sleeping for up to 18 hours each day. The family was informed that finding a suitable donor was crucial for Maddy to have a chance at a normal life, and fortunately, her dad was a perfect match! The surgery was a resounding success, and both Maddy and Paul made a full recovery. Filled with immense gratitude, Karen said, “Daddy’s kidney has saved our little girl. Now, she has boundless energy. Her once-massive tummy now just looks a little bit rounded, and she is a happy and healthy two-year-old.”Paul, a humble and selfless father, believes that any dad would have done the same for their child. He expressed, “We have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, but donating my kidney to Maddy is simply what any father would do. It’s part of being a parent.” The family now finds joy in witnessing Maddy grow up as a happy and healthy little girl. Although Maddy may require another transplant in 25 years, for now, she has a lifetime ahead of her to relish and embrace life to the fullest. We are overjoyed for this remarkable family and extend our heartfelt wishes for their continued well-being. Share their heartwarming story with your loved ones and join us in sending them blessings and good wishes.
