Woman, who inflicted injuries on a 6-week-old boy and then killed his twin brother while the twins’ parents took the injured boy to a hospital for treatment, could be sentenced to death

Pennsylvania – In a case that has sent shockwaves through Pennsylvania and beyond

a 30-year-old woman, identified as N. Virzi, faces severe legal consequences as she is accused of causing fatal injuries to a 6-week-old baby

identified as Leon, while babysitting over Father’s Day weekend, an act that has led prosecutors to consider the death penalty if convicted.

Virzi is embroiled in a deeply disturbing case, charged with the murder of 6-week-old Leon over Father’s Day weekend.

The District Attorney’s Office has filed a notice to pursue the death penalty, a decision underscored by the severity and nature of the incident, which also involves the aggravated assault of Leon’s twin brother.

According to reports, the ordeal began when Virzi was babysitting at the Katz family’s apartment while the parents were at a hospital addressing another set of injuries to Leon’s twin brother, injuries also alleged to have been caused by Virzi. The affidavit details that on the night of June 15, Virzi contacted emergency services, claiming that Leon had fallen from a bassinet and sustained a head injury. Tragically, the infant was pronounced dead hours later.

Investigators have pieced together a scenario where Virzi was the sole caretaker at the time of the incident. Medical examinations suggested that the injuries sustained by both twins were consistent with child abuse, described in court documents as “inflicted injuries that are not natural and not accidental.”

The severity of Leon’s injuries, described as acute, conflicted with Virzi’s account of events. She claimed to have dozed off while Leon was in a bouncer seat, only to find him injured after purportedly falling a mere 18 inches. This inconsistency, coupled with the tragic outcome, led to heightened suspicions and eventual charges.

Virzi, who was arrested following the incident, faces not only murder charges but also allegations of child endangerment. Her defense attorney stated that Virzi has no prior legal troubles and stressed the importance of a thorough and proper legal process to uncover the full truth of what transpired. He described his client as devastated by the events, especially given her close relationship with the Katz family.

The local and wider community have been shaken by this event, rallying around the Katz family during this unimaginably painful time. A GoFundMe campaign was set up to support the family, describing Leon as a “happy, smiley, goofy baby boy” and emphasizing the profound loss felt by all who knew him.

The case continues to develop as both the prosecution and defense prepare for what promises to be a highly charged trial. With the death penalty on the table, the stakes are monumentally high for all parties involved.
