The tennis star was denied entry to the rooftop restaurant of a luxury hotel.
23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams has shamed a Parisian restaurant for barring her and her children from attending the 2024 Olympics.
The owners of the five-star hotel refused to allow the tennis player’s family to visit, despite the fact that the restaurant was completely empty.
However, Williams didn’t let the matter go and took to social media to describe the situation that took place at the luxury Peninsula Hotel on Monday, August 5.
At the Paris Peninsula, I was denied access to the rooftop so I could eat in an empty restaurant with my children. This is the first time I’ve been turned down with children,” Williams wrote.
The star also shared a photo of the hotel sign so her followers could understand which establishment she was talking about. The Peninsula Hotel later expressed regret for denying Williams a visit.
Dear Mrs. Williams, please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you experienced this evening. Unfortunately our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only unoccupied tables you saw were at our gourmet restaurant L’Oiseau Blanc which was fully booked. We have always been glad to see you and will be glad to welcome you again. Peninsula Paris,” the hotel management responded on social networks.
Williams’ fans were quick to criticize the staff for refusing to accommodate the tennis legend.
“How could you refuse Serena Williams,” the fan wondered.
Glad you didn’t have to spend money there,” said another.
It’s better not to go there, their food is of poor quality – unfortunately, I had to pay for it quite a few times,” the user wrote.
Serena Williams was among the many stars who took part in the Olympic opening ceremony on July 26, sailing down the Seine in the same boat as Rafael Nadal, Carl Lewis and Nadia Comaneci.
From attending the amazing opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics to boating in the pouring rain, everything was amazing! – Williams noted after the opening of the Olympic Games.
In addition to her Grand Slam victories, Williams has four Olympic gold medals, including in singles and doubles at London 2012.
